Green Bridal Shower

Eco-chic to the max!

A green bridal shower is a wonderful way to honor a bride adopting an environmentally friendly lifestyle. We so often forget that parties are hotbeds of post-consumer waste: paper, plastic, and food just end up in the trash.
The bride will immensely appreciate the steps you take to keep her shower from falling into the same trap. These green bridal shower ideas highlight the beauty of what is natural and simple.
Brighten the planet's future as you help the bride prepare for hers!

Outdoor Green Bridal Shower 1. Solar Power!
When choosing the
location for a green bridal shower, opt for one with many large windows. You'll want to allow in as much natural sunlight as possible without seating guests directly in it. Not only will a sun-drenched room keep energy costs down, but it sets the stage for the wholesome, feel-good vibe of eco-livng.If sunlight is not in abundance, twist compact fluorescent lightbulbs into your lamps for guilt-free visibility! Even better, hold a green bridal shower outside. But be sure to reserve a back-up location, just in case it rains.

2. Get the Word Out
You have several environmentally friendly alternatives to standard invitations, just perfect for a green bridal shower:
Good. Buy invitations that are made with a high percentage of recycled paper. Bonus points if they are printed with vegetable-based inks.
Better. Sending postcard invitations removes the need for envelopes, which are just a (preventable) waste of paper.
Best. E-vites instantly reach their recipients without leaving any unwanted footprints. For guests who don't have an e-mail address, a simple telephone call will suffice.

Natural Make Up For Your Wedding

Would you not want to look like a princess on your wedding day? After all, it is your wedding and it comes once in a lifetime! Among all the people, the entire attention will be on you and you will be stealing all the limelight. It therefore indicates that no matter what, you cannot afford to look like a Plain Jane on your wedding. At the same time, too much make-up can make you look garish and the hot topic being discussed in your marriage could be your over-the-top look. However, there is a way to strike a balance between the two by choosing for natural make-up for your wedding. Read on useful information regarding the know-how of natural make-up for a marriage.

Eyes
Avoid any harsh lines or too much eye liner and Kajal. Your eyes can be lined according to the color of dress you will be wearing. Opt for black, grey or even brown and make sure to smoothen it out. The eye shadow is best used according to your dress and your skin tone. Warm tones like copper, chestnut brown, peaches, pink browns, etc. work the best. Avoid greens, blues or garish pinks and violets. Use generous doses of mascara to add volume to your eyes.

All-Natural Bridal Beauty Picks

Naturally, the green craze has made it to your makeup bag. While some brands (like Aveda and The Body Shop) have longstanding reputations for environmentally friendly products, organic beauty booty is now more plentiful than ever before.

Make Sure It's Legit

There are lots of green beauty options out there to choose from -- the key is knowing what's what. The USDA's National Organic Program also handles beauty goods, so if you see a product with one of their seals, you know it's got the good stuff (products contain 70% or more organic ingredients). What's the benefit? Besides supporting cleaner agriculture, doesn't it feel better to know you're not slathering your skin with scary chemicals?

Our product picks: Jurlique Day Care Face Cream ($34, Jurlique.com); The Healing Garden reFortify Eye Cream ($14, Drugstore.com).

Get Your Minerals

Though they've been around practically forever (think of the kohl eyeliner on Cleopatra), mineral makeup has made a comeback as part of the all-natural craze. It uses naturally occurring minerals and compounds, and in most cases it uses no dyes either, making it safe even for those with allergies, sensitive skin, or skin problems like acne and rosacea.

Our product picks: Zia Natural Foundation ($16, ZiaNatural.com); GloMinerals gloLiquid Lips in "Darling" ($14, Amazon.com/beauty); Neutrogena Mineral Sheers for Eyes -- we love it in
"Clay" ($8, Drugstore.com).

Laura's Farm --- Caterer that Grows Organic Veggies

In November of 2004, while in Baguio, Tinette Cuevas-Lucero with the prodding of her mother Tessie, started to entertain the idea of setting up her own farm. With the vision of the farms she would pass by through the scenery of Malaga and Seville in Spain, she made a few calls and eventually found a contact to a consultant for vegetable farming.

Using the idle land of her grandmother in San Pablo, Laguna, she launched into this business venture of hers. The organic farm was to be called "Laura's Farm" after her family's matriarch.

Steps to a Green Wedding

 1. Your invitation is the first impression guests will get of your green wedding. Look for:

    * recycled, handmade, or plantable papers processed chlorine-free and printed with vegetable- or soy-based inks

    * tree-free paper made out of hemp, banana stalks, bamboo, kenaf, or organic cotton
    * a printer who will use paper with a high percentage of post-consumer recycled content
    * papers that aren't metallic or plastic-coated, characteristics that make them hard to recycle
    * opportunities to reduce paper use, like sending a postcard (instead of multi-enveloped notes) for your save-the-date, or using online invitations and a wedding blog to let people know about the bachelor/ette parties, rehearsal dinner, and gift registry

2. With this ring...
A green wedding begins where any engagement does: with a ring. Don't start off on a sour note. The beautiful alternatives to "blood diamonds" (those that are mined in war zones and fund conflicts) include:

  • vintage rings, whether a family heirloom or an antique find (you can even have old gold melted down and refashioned)
  • lab-created diamonds (greenKarat's are set in recycled gold too)
  • diamonds mined in peaceful Canada or Australia, like those from Brilliant Earth, Cred Jewellery, or Leber Jewelry's Earthwise line
  • diamonds certified as "conflict-free" under the Kimberley Process, an ongoing effort to reform diamond mining in Africa (ask your jeweler the questions in Amnesty International's buyer's guide)
  • one-of-a-kind wooden bands
3. The final fling
Plan bachelor and bachelorette parties that will keep the green theme going:
  • Stay local (and spend more time with your friends, and less dealing with travel stress).
  • Offset your trip if you choose a "destination" party.
  • Travel by train (and start the party early in the bar car).
  • Indulge in organic wine (or beer) tasting or an organic spa treatment.

  • Take a class and learn to make your own wedding flowers or jewelry.
  • Do something low-impact and outdoorsy like a camping, surfing, sailing, kayaking, or fishing trip.
